Hair is used to create booms which soak up oil.
They can use nylons and hair: human and animal. So if your dog is shedding right now, put it in a bag, make sure it's debris free and clean, and sign up for free to find out where you can ship it. You can read instructions here, but you'll need to sign up (free) to get the address for your state.
One way this is used is to help clean up the animals/birds and line cages to soak up oil.

Baby elephants are torn from their mothers when they are infants and are beaten into submission. Make a difference in the lives of mother elephants and their babies.
